This meet-up will explore how we can take beautiful portraits using natural light and backgrounds. We will explore how to recognise flattering light and how to manipulate it whilst shooting in a less controlled environment than a studio. We will explore how we can work collaboratively with our subject to achieve a portrait that captures their personality and style. We will also look at posing and setting your subject at ease. Technical learning points will include accurate focusing and metering for skin tones.

Note: Please bring a family member or a friend as your model

Come and join us as we explore composition in photography.

Composition is one of the most critical element in photography. Composition is how a photographer arranges the visual elements within their image, frame. I promise you that if you search for information on composition you will find plenty You will find formal rules, opinion, some of which you can trace back to historical art movements and painters.

Even in the digital world, composition remains the key to creating strong images. Composition is what guides our eye through an image and gives importance to the subject. It creates the story for the viewer and how we as photographers convey that message.

This meetup will explore composition using our frame and tools available to us as the photographer.

Title or Location: Time heals all?.
This painting was done with various brands of watercolor on Arches cold press. The reason behind it is healing so if you notice, the heart and roses in the back look decomposed while the rose in front of the top of the heart are coming back to life.

This young woman was waiting for a ceremony to begin that I was attending. She lives in West Africa and was wearing a string of random beads that my African friends prefer. Her expression was open but patient and knowing. I thought some of her grandmother's wisdom must have come to her, just like the necklace.

Title or Location: Texas Oak Vignette
I took a picture of an old oak tree in central Texas which I used for reference. I decided to represent it in an iconic vignette type rather than a straight up landscape painting.

I am recovering from being paralyzed from the neck down with Guillain Barre Syndrome. I have always had a gift of art. I was so afraid that being paralyzed for over a year that I would lose my gift? my prayers were answered and my ?gift? is better now than before. I do not draw anything,, I see it in my head and then I paint. I do not have fine motor skills in my hands and I tell people I can not load and unload the dishwasher but I can hold a paintbrush!!!
